| A
Brief History of your Back Pain |
| As
we go through life we have injuries, do silly
things and do not always have the best posture,
we may also not exercise enough. This results
in joints or the soft-tissues (ligaments, muscles,
discs) between them getting damaged. Over time
this inflammation goes and we tend to ignore
it or have been educated over time to accept
it as normal. |
| However,
although most of the time the inflammation will
settle, the joints may not move correctly following
this. The joint may become stuck, start to move
too much, or may move in the opposite direction
to the correct movement. |
| Over
time this causes stress and strain on the ligaments,
muscles and discs. The joint may be painful
to the touch but we may not notice it at the
time. |
| Eventually
the body struggles to control the joint and
an excessive action or unguarded movement can
result in damage to the soft-tissues and pain. |
| Repeated
episodes result in degeneration and leads to
disc disease or prolapse, this in turn can permanently
damage nerves resulting in wasting of the corresponding
muscle fibres leading to possible disability,
loss of sensations such as touch and balance
and less control of the autonomic functions
such as blood vessel control and organ health. |
| Most
people you see struggling in later life have
gone through this process, it doesn’t
have to be like that, with proper management
of your complaint, specific rehabilitation exercises,
good nutrition and regular appropriate exercise
the likelihood of disability in old age can
be reduced. |
