What happens at my first consultation?
After completing a patient details and consent to examination form you will be taken in for the consultation. A brief synopsis of the reasons we get problems will be given. This is followed by a thorough history of the current problem plus your previous health history.
You will then be examined, patients will be asked to disrobe to their underwear, female patients will be given a gown, this can be extended to males if they feel uncomfortable. The examination: comprises standard Orthopaedic and Neurological tests, specific Chiropractic tests, Postural evaluation, evaluation of individual joints and related soft-tissues and a functional assessment to ascertain specific areas of weakness.
X-rays are ordered when clinically necessary, in accordance with guidelines of the Royal College of Radiologists.
At this point you will be given some advice on pain relief and if you are serious about resolving your pain you will be invited to re-schedule for the next 40 minute appointment when you will receive the report of findings.
Report of Findings
At the next visit you will be given a breakdown of your problem and how it will be treated. This includes; Why you are getting the pain, what structures are involved, type of treatment required, frequency and cost of the treatment, possible complications or risks of treatment, prognosis for recovery. This will be given using a spinal model and X-rays if available to help you understand your problem and you will be able to ask questions at any time. You will then be asked for your consent to treatment, which will commence at the first visit.
