In essence YES, unless you have a condition that requires a referral to your GP, that would only become clear at the initial consultation.
As the vast majority of back pain is likely to be poor function, most patients with a mechanical problem should respond well to our treatment program.
The treatment mainly consists of manipulation which can be a quick thrust which frees up the joints, this can be done using a drop mechanism on the bench, or a hand-held tool to deliver an impulse or by hand.
Or mobilisation, which is a slower movement to increase the range of movement of a stiff area or joint, this can be done using hands or for the lower back a gentle traction can be performed again using the highly versatile bench.
In some cases the application of wedges under the pelvis can help to very gently restore function to the inflamed joints. This is particularly useful for late stage pregnancy.
